GLS1OE/GLE1OE Learning Strategies 1: Skills for Success in Secondary School (Open)

This course focuses on learning strategies to help students become better, more independent learners. Students will learn how to develop and apply literacy and numeracy skills, personal management skills, and interpersonal and teamwork skills to improve their learning and achievement in school, the workplace, and the community. The course helps students build confidence and motivation to pursue opportunities for success in secondary school and beyond.

Prerequisite:  For GLS1OE – None, for GLE1OE – Recommendation of principal

GLC2OE Career Studies (Open) 0.5 credit 

This course teaches students how to develop and achieve personal goals for future learning, work, and community involvement. Students will assess their interests, skills, and characteristics and investigate current economic and workplace trends, work opportunities, and ways to search for work. The course explores postsecondary learning and career options, prepares students for managing work and life transitions, and helps students focus on their goals through the development of a career plan.

GLC2OF Exploration des choix de carrière (Open) 0.5 credit.

Same course as GLC2OE, but taught in French

IDC 3OE/IDC4OE Yearbook (Open)

Students in this course are responsible for the design and of the Rockland District High School Yearbook. Students should have a background or interest in one of the following areas: photography, desktop publishing, art/design or written language. Those enrolled must design a new or improved product that meets the need and review the success of this product. Students must produce quality work, work together in groups, must be able to handle deadline pressure and can expect to spend additional time outside of the class working on the publication.

IDC4UE LINK Crew (University)

This course focuses on the skills and knowledge that are needed to further the philosophy of Students Helping Students. Link Crew is a structured transitional program that provides senior students with leadership training and opportunities as they mentor grade 9 students in order to help facilitate the transition into high school, in an effort to create relationships and a positive school environment.  This course provides students the opportunity to develop and reflect upon personal leadership, organization, and communication skills in order to become positive role models, motivators and peers.

Students will be selected for this program through an application and interview process.
